Yes it has a vacuum operated fuel pressure regulator, I replaced it as I thought I could smell fuel at its vacuum line.

The car starts perfectly cold. But it has a long start...or several revolutions to start but does start when its warm. It runs fine after it starts. Thats where and why I am lost here.

Fri. I plan to drive the car and get it warm, see if I can feel power loss, and hesitation, anything. Any time I do drive it, it runs fine and feels fine, just a hard starting issue when warm.

I am going to do a back pressure test, and thought I would pull the pre cat O2 sensors and try and see if helps the warm engine starting (kinda like you suggested loosing the exhaust manifolds). Ive heard of guys doing this to see. Also I found that the pipe temps are 100*F cooler before the cats then the are after the cats...this would tell me more on the efficiency of the cats.

its not unusaul for cat temps to rise up to 900f. if the temp is only 100f difference, you may be on to something.

good luck!!

ZephyrEFI, so when are you bringing all your tools over ? I now own a Snap On Sun Scope !

I gotta hook it up and see what the hells going on with this Taurus. I drove the car today, it does feel sluggish to me like the engine is working harder then the actual motion. Feels like it could be better....The Sun Mach. should help with the seeing if the CATs are indeed bad.

Well, I've still got the Zeph torn apart. Tell you what, I'll let you know... Laughing

I just hope the '04 Aviator I picked up today doesn't divert too much attention away from the Zeph. Immediate plans are aftermarket stereo and a flowmaster muffler of some sort.

Argh, just tried to go out and finish up my brake hose project (which involves some improvising since there's no such thing as stainless braided hoses for Mark VII brakes) and it's just too miserable and cold out. I just couldn't muster the motivation to do it. 'Sposta be crappy all week too. I'm hoping to participate in the MN Fords club cruise from Apple Valley to Taylors Falls next Saturday, so I at least have to have it driveable by then. I think the other projects (speedometer, gas gauge, parking brake etc) are going to have to wait until afterwards. <sigh> Winter weather doesn't usually get to me like this, but this sucks.

I think you have to join the club. It's $25, so not bad. I joined it. Check out mnfords.com

I think I may found my starting problem on this Taurus. The "Check Charging System" light came on. So I am waiting for the the tow truck to pick it up in downtown Minneapolis. To far to chance it home durning rush hour.
