had a leaking booster from the original brake upgrade using a 93 2.3 liter convertible booster, it developed an internal leak. also caused idling problems as the brakes were applied. funny enough they felt ok, until i switched the eng off and the pedal would shoot up!! (not intreveniously)
got a 93 v-8 booster, looks the same and fits the same. breaks are ok... but wanted more whoa!!
bought a 2000 mustang V-6 booster, tried to fit it last night. made a template, drilled the holes, i even spent some money on red paint to tidy this area up, and it slid in easily between the wiper motor and intake, just moved the loom over a bit and the moved the a/c hose.

the crowd goes wild, i am LAUGHING MY ASS OFF!!!! tyre crayon in hand and air hammer standing ready, 45 minutes later and i've got nothing accomplished!!! ive reshaped the left side shock tower way more than i had intended. this big bar-steward dont fit.

my first thought was to throw it out in the street, call the pigs and say that the dough-nut shop was being robbed, and watch it get hit, but it closes at around 5, so that's a loser....

then i thought about putting one of the kids micheal myers mask on it, tie to a string, pin it to the porch, start it swinging and call my buddy and tell him someone was robbing his house, that would be fun, and we could fix the roof 2-marro......that aint gonna work cause i got no way to get there.

then i thought, drill a 3/8 hole in it, put a small amount of gasoline inside, add some acetylene, plug in a 921 bulb with the glass broken-off and light the bitch, dont have enough wire......

i cant take it bowling...we dont have a bowling alley.

then i decided to make the little black bar-steward suffer, i put it on display in the back seat, so everyone would see it and ask "why are you carying a booster around". then i would embarass the shite out of it, and maybe next time it will go right in. also i'm gonna smoke in the car, with the windows up, because this is a politically correct booster that only wants to fit in a mustang, mabe it will chill-out.

i seek revenge for a wasted evening/night, therefore i must consult the oracle, or perhaps the hooded lady in black.

it's getting cold and late, and i've run-out of ideas, so in goes the old 93 v-8 booster and i now have brakes.

it wsnt a total wasted evening, at least i got a can of red paint.

hey, now thats foward thinking, or maybe i should use the paint on the exterior of the car to get rid of that sun baked rust and dull paint. with the way my memory is i'll probably not be able to remember where i left the paint if i set it down.
what pisses me off is that these boosters will fit a 91 mustang, theres gotta be a way to fit this bitch without destroying the r/s/f shock tower.
i hate to give-up, but when i eyeballed the the booster when it was in the car, i was also concerned about the fitting of the master cylinder bolts, bcause it looks like the m/cyl will be right up against the shock tower. but thats only eyballing.
i got a hell of an air hammer, shite-loads of determination, but this puts a serious cramp in my ego.
this heap is a 79 model on a 80 plate, i wonder what the shock towers look like on the later fairmonts or the box tops.
i spent too much time trying to find this booster in my parts storage piles just to lose it again. maybe i should mail it to myself, act like it's a gift and try it again later.
trust me i was so pissed, i felt like buying an original fairmont booster and putting that one in, just so i didnt have to fit the same booster back in, or i could have painted the old one and made it red with the new paint.
theres supposed another futura here in town somewhere, maybe i should buy it, jerk the motor, fit this booster and start all over and act like this never happened.the last futura i went to try and buy, the guy wanted mine(probably because i had a new battery)
i gotta use the paint on something,or that 6 bucks down the drain. maybe i could use it on my radio flyer that i use at work!!!
when i first bought that wagon, everybody laughed, its been thru 3 or four sets of wheels, been welded up several times, everyone uses it for batteries and tires, we even used it to help move a frame on an f550 truck, then it got crushed, so all work stopped as the "pit crew" asembled to repair "the wagon" we moved the frame later that evening when we got more help.!!!
i managed to overcome the other obstacles, made my own loom, added fuel injection, all the other crap, HELL:THIS IS ONLY A BRAKE BOOSTER!!!

maybe i should stick the booster in the freezer, shrink it, and then put it in , or maybe i should stick it washer, wash it with hot water, (that worked for my new sweater) or i could take it to bisbee and drop in down a mineshaft and act like this never happened.
maybe i'll just buy another mustang, paint the booster red and put it in there, i hate to waste a booster
    and a can of paint.

when is halloween......do you think the paint will still be good, or should i stick it the freezer?

LOL the paint would still be good by next October 31st. How much clearance are you short? I seem to recall someone else putting in the same year booster with little clearance issue, it might have been Stymee'smont, try dropping him a line

I used my stock 9" booster and used 84-86 Mustang SVO master cyl. then I used the matching proportioning valve to the '98 Mustang GT I got the rear disc 8.8 and front spindles and brakes out of. Did not drill or hammer a single dint or hole in the car except to relocate the proportioning valve slightly . Easy as pie !!! sorry...lol

Hey I ran a similar set-up, I was using the stock booster with cast iron master cylinder from the svo, using the pbr front brakes from a 2000 mustang, it worked pretty good.
As my booster was knocking on nearly 30 years old I decided to change it to a later model, that booster(1993 2.3 convertible) developed an internal leak, which not only gave a stiffer pedal feel, but wreaked havoc with the injection syst.
I threw on a 93 gt convertible booster, which seemed to do the job ok, but is still lacking under heavy braking in some ways. That’s why I wanted the 2000 v-6 booster, I thought it would have more push if you know what I mean.
The issue with fittiing 2000 booster seems down @ the lower area of the shock tower, it needs messaging to enable it to fit straight and parallel to the body. As stated previous, I had reshaped the shock tower quite a bit, maybe it just needs another evening of counseling.
I have been toying with the idea of hydro boost from the 4.6, I think this may be the way to go. It’s neat & tidy, gives plenty of room. It’s a simple install if you have a good pump.
    I’ve never junked-out a mustang with a 4.6, maybe I could find a hydro boost on e bay, I know I’ve seen them before.
Anyway; wishing all a merry Christmas, and a happy new year. Lets hope everyone stays safe and well in the new year.

Hey, i've been through this battle. i have a '94-04 V6 booster in my car. you will get it to fit if you lengthen the holes enough to maneuver it in there at an angle, and remove the pedal bracket from behind. Easiest way to do this is just pull the steering column and dash. Trust me, it's worth it. And when you're done, the brakes work AWESOME.

i havent given-up yet, the time constraints are almost rediculous. i would like to complete this operation by christmas, i had considered shaving some material off the end of the mounting bolts to get it in. if not it has to wait till after christmas. that sounds like a really good idea!!!!

I put a '94-'95 Cobra booster into a friends' '89 Mustang GT convertible, and though not easy, it wasn't stupid hard either. The strut tower did need to be clearanced with a mini-sledge, and since the '94-up cars had an ever-so-slightly different bolt pattern than the Fox cars (which may well be your problem) I used a BIG 5/8" drill bit in a 3/8" drill to make all the holes oversize so the new booster could slip in. This also allowed it to go in at a slight angle which helped get it past the strut tower. Use suitable washers on the back side, and it should work fine.

That GT also had a Baer 4 lug rear disk system, Pony wheels, stock front rotors with Lincoln MK VII calipers, '93 Cobra master cylinder, and an adjustable regulator with a gutted prop valve, and the brakes felt exactly as good as the stock brakes on my '93 Cobra - maybe better. Those big boosters may be a pain to install, but it's really, really worth the effort.

i need to check the part# from this booster!!! i may have got corn-fuzed which car it came from. i'm pretty sure this is a 2000 mustang booster, (i really dont care its going in anyway!!!)
when i get some time to wind my ass & scratch my watch, i'm gonna try this operation again.
i was amazed as it almost fell into the area between the engine & shock tower, it's just getting the bar-steward thing to fit into the holes. thats why i considered removing some material from the bolts.
the drilling of the 5/8 holes kinda alarms me, but i'll try it as soon as time permits. thanks.

You can also use thin cardboard to make a pattern of the late model booster stud locations, and then transfer the pattern to the car, elongating the holes as necessary with a round file. Either method will work, but the pattern is definitely different.
