So, I should finally be picking up my 8.8 in a couple weeks, and was wondering how long it took all of you who have done the swap to get it done. I am fairly handy, I fix my own junk all the time, so can I safely assume this can be accomplished in a weekend? Also, let me know of anything I should watch out for, like routing of lines and such. Thanks guys!

I pulled my backing plates off (which, of course, required removing the axles), and hung the brakes on the car while I swapped the housing. This meant that I got to keep the rear brake flex line and T fitting in the proper place for a Fairmont. If I'm not mistaken, the Mustang has the flex in the middle. I could be wrong. I don't usually play with Mustangs. Other than that, it's remove the driveshaft yoke and 4 control arm bolts (be careful of those springs!), two shock bolts, and reverse procedure to install. You might have to tweak the brake line a little to clear the larger hump, and the quad-shock brackets. It's been a while, I don't remember.

Figure, once the car is safely supported by the body, anywhere between 1 and 3 hours, depending on what kind of tools you have (air or manual) and such. Of course, that assumes that you don't run into problems. Either way, getting it done over the course of the weekend shouldn't be a problem.

Later,
Mike.

Spray the control arm bolts with penetrating fluid everyday for a few days if you can... They can be a real pain in the butt... Other then that its no biggy. As long as the bolts arnt being a pain in the ass, I agree with Aug about the time, its not a hard job. Bring a buddy if possible. lol

Excellent, these are the answers I was hoping for. Luckily I have a brother in law I can call on for help if I need it. He owes me big time, I grouted his new bathroom tiles for him the other day. Doesn't hurt that he's a mechanic either.

Using a small flathead really helps with the e-brake cables... I took the ones off of my buddys Z in like 10 seconds the other day, mine took me forever with the wrong tool Wink.
