Driveshafts

I am having a driveshaft issue as well. My Z7 is an original 302/auto car. It now has a 302 with a T5 and an 8.8. I have found that my driveshaft is about and inch longer than I would like as well. The guy I bought the car from has a Futura and his driveshaft is shorter than mine, not by much but it is shorter. Mine has the "balancer" on the yoke where his does not. I have seen a couple other Fairmonts in the pick and pull around here and they have the same drive shaft that I do. They are 4 cylinder auto and a stick, wagon and 4 door. Dont know what to think. I am just going to have mine shortened about an inch.

I think i am resigned to having mine shortened as well. I've looked around for a decent match at the junkyards, but have had no luck.

My old '78 had the balancer on it, and my '83 I have now does not. both had 200 six's and auto's.

I have to add here when I did my 302/c4 to T5 swap I found my driveshaft was about an inch too long. It has enuff slip in the yoke to not "bottom out" on the trans` output shaft, but makes me leary. I recall when I did my 3.3 to 5.0 swap the 3.3/c4`s driveshaft was about an inch longer than a 302/c4 combos d/s..or was it the other way around..I dont remember now it was too many years ago. But point being the above mentioned combos have different length driveshaft`s.

i had a 6.75 in my 79 futura 3.3 200 6 and put an 83 mustang gt 7.5 in it and used a driveshaft out of a 82 7.5 4-door zephyr worked great.
