Subject: typical 6 cylinder compression? Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:45 am
I was checking my compression the other day to check how my rings were holding up, and all 6 averaged around 165 to about 170. how does that compare to new? it sounds pretty good to me, but i can't seem to fnid the information on what its supposed to be anywhere.

That's pretty good, I'd be very happy with that. Mine was in the 160 range. The difference between the high and the low number should not be more than 20%, or something like that, off the top of my head.

just a little info from the past, when you check compression, the first compression cycle when the guage is inserted should be roughly half of the total compression yield.
you shouldnt have to crank the engine thru more than 5 or 6 cycles to obtain maximum compression measurement.
