I don't know how many of you guys do wiring or electronics, but I managed to find some aluminum foil tape for shielding the wires on pcms. it's also good for guitars etc.

it is from a company called "tape it"

part# AL1

1.89 inches wide 10 yards long

www.TAPEIT.com

hate to say it, but it's made in china.

this is what you need for eliminating RFI & EMI on the pcm wiring for the CMP,CKP or for TFI .

I don't know if anyone will ever need any, but I thought i'd thro the part# out there for you guys.

Ooooo, nice! Thanks! I still need to extend my PCM wiring to put it under the seat, and this will come in handy!

yeah, this is particularly important to keep the rfi from interfering with the pcm wiring and setting the check engine light with some strange codes.

the biggest contributors to rfi are the starter and alternator.

the wiring from the TFI that needs to be shielded is easy to identify as it is shielded up to the to the pcm connector.

realizing everyone does things differently, here is a good tip.

cut the foil into 1/2 wide strips. when you wrap the wiring with the tape cut into 1/2 strips, it makes the loom more flexible

use a good clean non insulated wire for the shielding ground wire. I used #14 copper wire as I couldn't find any solder coated wire, but is seemed to work just fine.

wind the un-insulated ground wire around the TFI wiring, then wrap the foil tape around it.

if you ever have to use spiral wound wires, like for abs, ckp or cmp, get the correct gauge wire and use a drill to wind the two wires. always wind more wire than you need, there aint no fun finding out you are 2 inches short. remember to offset the cuts and mends in the wiring and be sure to use heat shrink tubing to seal the soldered joints.

my bud is going to fit a fuel injected supercharged 5.0 from a Lincoln MKVII into a 65 mustang this weekend, he does great mechanical work, but he's an electrical hacker, so I reckon i'll have a dogs dinner load of work to do next week, because I aint answering the phone this weekend.

I've given/sold him loads of parts to see this baby fly, I wish him luck.

just a little back ground on the 65 mustang, some guy in the army bought the car and spent around 19k on the body and engine, GREAT looking/running little car, got bored with it, traded it for a new F-150.

guy on the lube rack bought it, thru 4k into wheels, tires intake carb & transmission and suspension. wife came back from overseas, went spastic, got rid of car, tears for him & kids, happiness for next owner. so he traded it for a 99 Mustang limited edition 35 anniversary edition, wife almost had a stroke when she couldn't push it the competition style clutch, gets furious so he sells 99 model car and buys 2013 Mustang GT, problem solved, wife likes car and will let him drive it sometimes, so dude buys tricked-out crotch rocket, she don't have any say over this yet.

next dude does great spends more Wonga on cluster, tunes suspension, replaces oil pan. valve covers, now intake & Holley carb. trades car for 11 second turbo charged Chevy 1500, then
destroys the transmission input shaft. get's a super-hardened shaft so it wont happen again.

next new dude loves car, drives and handles GREAT, more suspension tuning, then suddenly realizes no rear discs brakes and that C-4's have only 3 gears???

enter Lincoln 5.0 supercharged 5.0 with an AOD....to be continued....... maybe.

its a nice car, and I'm hoping to get to use some of my tape on it, get my drift?? that should be a nice little ride!!

it now becomes apparent, I need more power, or I'm going to be getting a lot of porch-time.

Sounds like fun. 302 should be an easy swap size-wise, but then there's the wiring and all the little things you and I know so well.
