| My rear brake hoses are in need of replacement, so I thougtht why not go for stainless braided and be done with it. Been researching how exactly I can get these for my car with its weird combination of brakes. With my Lincoln rear disc brakes, I thought I would look for SVO stuff, since you don't really see Lincoln performance parts. At first I thought I was looking at blowing way too much money and getting a 4 wheel set, since I couldn't find any just for the rear (or the front for that matter). I thought I would be looking at trying to sell the fronts so I could get the right hoses for my '01 PBR front brakes. So, I tried to find out what SVO front calipers are shared with, so I had an idea who I'd be marketing to. It turns out that SVO front calipers use a banjo type fitting, whereas same-year Mustangs use a fitting that just threads into the caliper. Not looking good. My market so far is SVOs ONLY or Crown Vics, Town Cars, and other Lincolns. Don't see many of those with performance intent. But then I found out that '87-93 front calipers also use banjo type fittings, and Maximum Motorsports claims their front hoses fit on either '87-93 or the SVO. Things are looking up. But then, on a whim today I googled "Braided Stainless Brake Hoses", which returned Summit universal hoses for WAYYYYYY less money. Promising, but Summit only makes so many, and they don't make any with the right size 10mm banjo fitting. However, Russell DOES. However, they do NOT make them with the correct 3/8-24 female inverted flare end for the body side of the hose. They are AN -3. They do, however make a variety of adaptors for these including AN -3 to 3/8-24 female inverted flare. I think this is what i'm going to go with. It'll save me the hassle of trying to unload the front hoses.
And then, of course to replace my front hoses, there is a variety of brands that sell '99-01 GT front-only hose sets. And then, I'd need one from the body to the axle then too. I want to replace them all at the same time, so it doesn't put undue strain on any remaining rubber hoses.
Anyway, that may or may not be helpful to anyone, but it's another good story about dealing with buying parts for a cobbled-together franken-car.

| WHAT???
get the braided mustang hoses for the frt,solved...
find out what size fitting you have/want and ask if they have a prefabricated hose to match your requirements.
do you have a single or dual rear hoses, i believe the foxes used only 1 line, where as the sn95 used two short ones. either way they probably have a hose that fits.
dont worry about the rubber hoses blowing out, theres millions of them on the road every day and nothing on CNN or FOX about them blowing out.

| It's the rears that NEED replacing though.
That's pretty much what I'm doing. They don't have the exact one, hence the adaptors, but I don't believe anyone does. I browsed Summit, Russell, Earls, and Maximum Motorsports and no luck.
I have a hose going to the axle, and then each caliper has it's own, obviously. I'm sure my hose to the axle is the same as any Fox.
And if the point of adding the braided stainless hoses is to eliminate flex, might as well eliminate it everywhere.

| find out who the manfacturer of you hoses is/will be.
find thier website
go to contact us
tell them what you have going on, it they dont have what you need, they can/may wang one out, it's all about image.
i'm almost certain that the local rock crawler club make their own steel braided hoses, they have some wierd combo suspensions with massive amounts of travel.
i'll ask when my buddy gets out of the field if you like, they build all thier stuff.

| Thanks, but i'm pretty satisfied with Russell's solution. Earl's even has a "build your own" line and they don't offer any female inverted flare ends for theirs, nor do they have any adaptors. Russell's -3 and adaptor must be what they expect people to use, as I don't know of any manufacturers that use AN fittings standard in their brake systems. Maybe your buddies do though. | |
