Putting a 302 into a 6 cyl Fairmont

Hi guys.

I am in the UK so we don't have a lot of info or sources of parts for these cars over here. I have just bought a '79 Fairmont with the 200 six and 4 speed manual. I wanted to swap the six for an eight and wondered if it were possible to get a 302 onto the stock 4 speed? I understand the bolt pattern is that the six uses 4 of the 6 bolts on a V8. I guess the bell housing is separate to the box and i can just use a 302 -> manual bell housing onto my box and a donor motor?

We have a few later model pickups here so I could get a 5.0 EFI motor from one of them cheap enough, I assume I'd just need to get a suitable flywheel

What about the stock clutch?

I'm not planning on racing it, its a family sedan and my daily driver, just looking to "keep up with the traffic" if you know what I mean.

I am also allergic to cars with less than 8 cylinders.

I've had a couple of trips taken me to Az. Stayed in Tucson and a smaller town, I now forget the name. I get why they call it a dry state...

I'm starting to think I may make my life easier with a complete Mustang GT as a donor, which makes it a bigger job than I originally planned, not knowing the front K frame was different on the 6 cyl.

Some planning may be required.

Basically I want a 4 door family sedan with reasonable performance and handling.

What happened to the forest? have they ever finished the A1 to London, i never had a straight shot on the A1, it was always having "road works"

yeah, i lived in Huntingdon, Greenford middlesex, & Bicester. its kinda like living in Cambridge, London & Oxford without the hassles. we got married in Ealing, worked in Ruislip, Southall & Aylesbury mainly for Toyata & Lexus, had my own gig for a while in the outskirts of the west end of London up & down the M40 from bicester came be a drag!! . we moved here to Az in 99.

its always easier & cheaper to find a donor, at least you'll have most of the parts you'll need with out having to find things piece-meal.

i used to do trix to some of my motors, it always gave me a pain when it was time to go for MOT, as some of the cars did not have EFI when they were built, or that "engine does not go to this car" you should be ok as most Yank Tanks come with the v-8's. and the MOT stations dont Know the diferent engine sizes.

my mother in law who lives in Huntingdon, says it's been really cold this year, i dont miss that at all, but i do miss the rain.
may be going back in April, if we do & i have some time, perhaps we can meet.

I have a friendly MOT place, and most of the cars I mess with are old enough not to be "on the computer" for emissions and brake load tests and all that. I'm sure there will be some show or something one we can cross paths at...

The A1, man, thats an awful road. Built to take the traffic of the 1930s in the 1950s LOL
