There’s good news on the horizon for the new 5.0 modular engine. It has been stated that the new 5.0 retains the same basic block dimensions for the motor mounts & transmission mounts. Therefore with the installation of a tubular k-member and the lower control arms having reversed bushings the engine will fit the Fairmont’s.
Don’t worry about the lower control arm bushings; there is a complete kit that already has the bushings set up for the fox. If the bushings aren’t reversed, the caster will be off, and there is a big chance the frt tires will rub in the wheel arches, this is due to a difference in the later k-members.
In crate form it comes with a manual transmission flywheel and some wiring. The new 6 speed auto trans is also available, (the auto would be my ideal combo).
I’m following an install in a fox mustang which appears to be coming along just fine, although some issues with the power steering pump bracket fitting has arisen. They seem to have the exhaust headers sorted out. Obviously a new drive shaft and trans cross member issues will need to be dealt with.
I have been researching the wiring issues involved with using the stock pcm, it would appear that at a glance most of the actual engine controls from the pcm are located in the eng bay, although if the stock pcm will be used the fuse box, cluster and smart junction box will also be needed. Speedo, PATS, gauges being the reason.. I have not inspected the electronic throttle pedal assembly for fitment, but I’m certain that American ingenuity will provide more than one way to do this.
