New driveshaft Empty
PostSubject: New driveshaft   New driveshaft Icon_minitimeSun Mar 15, 2009 12:42 pm

I've been looing for a new driveshaft since i did the 5.0 AOD swap. The stock 4cyl auto driveshaft was too long. I found a compound shaft (had a dual u-joint in the rear) which i modified by cutting off the extra yoke. It worked, but was really out of balance. Yesterday I finally found the perfect driveshaft. It came out of a late model 4 door explorer with 2 wheel drive. It's an aluminum driveshaft. I had to change both the front and rear yokes, but it fit perfectly. I've seen a lot of misinformation, so here's what I know.

Turbocoupe driveshaft about 3-4 inches too short. (I bought one thinking it would fit)
Aerostar all wheel drive. way too short.
Aerostar rear wheel drive. It didn't measure up right. I don't remember if it was too long or too short, but it was wrong.
Crown vic. Too long, but might make a good canidate for shortening as it's all aluminum.

I spent a lot of time at the junk yard with a tape measure.

Here's what I know about mine.
51.5" from ujoint center to center.
55.5" from trans seal to rear end plate face.
