PostSubject: My paint job idea.   Tue Feb 24, 2009 7:39 pm

My Zephyr is due for paint. I've just been slacking and not getting out and sanding it. But I have been kicking around this idea for a paint job. It would use the same colors that where available on the 79 Mustang Pace Cars. Instead of having it all black on the bottom maybe have it just between the tires. I would use Mustang rub strips/body moldings to break up the the colors. Oh and I wouldn't paint the hood. The body would be plain just like the picture and not have any graphics. So what do you guys think?

I was thinking of using that airdam as well. But I recently had my hands on one and it would be pretty tough get it to work. But someone on another site said that a airdam off of an 80's S-10 would work. Haven't had the chance to try it out my self yet. But there is one with slots for fog lights and I have a set of Mustang Marchal fogs. This is what the airdam looks like (on an S-10).

Let us know if you find a simple air-dam that works. I need to do something since I tucked my bumpers, the stock front valance doesn't fit and the radiator support shows below the bumper now. I was thinking airdam off a S-10 or Ranger, but I walked all over the junkyard a couple weeks ago measuring, and if I want something to bolt to the bumper, the S-10 is too narrow. The one that I finally found that should fit is on a Windstar. Only problem is it's not as tall as I'd like. I may pick one up anyway just to see how it looks.

The airdam on the wagon racer is from a Toyota minivan, at least that's what the guy told me. I'll look for his email to me. In it he told me how to adapt it.

I like the look of the El Camino air dam, that's cool. Anyone know where it came from?

Looking at it again, it almost looks like a buick gn or t-type air dam.

I think it is factory. I checked out about a dozen sites with sero kits for the Elcy and none listed the air dam yet all of the Elcys had it. Now I'm going to search for a replacement air dam. I"ll post when I track it down.

An old friend of mine years ago used a '90 / '91 Dodge Dakota air damn. Guess it fit very well, and it was much like the S-10's

So here's the only info I have on the front air dam on the wagon at this link:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2572611

The front lower valence is a modifed bottom half of a Honda Odyssey front bumper cover. The splitter is the top half of a Volvo 850 front bumper.

I can't find the second email he sent me about how he modified it. I like it but I can find the Elcy air dam for $160 new re-pop so I think I'm going with it...although the splitter on this one looks pretty damn cool. Oh well, it's all for next year LOL

Well, for an aftermarket one I found this place. I actually think it may be possible to adapt several parts:

http://www.laureneng.com/

For a stock replacement version I found these on eBay:

or

If you look at it, I think it can fit pretty darn well.

The elcamino is so close, I bet it's practically a bolt in. I'm sure it would require a little massaging for a good fit. The others however, don't even look like they would be close. They would require much more work to fit, if they would even fit at all.

I agree, just thought about what cars had squarish front ends without a lot of bow or curve in the bumpers when viewed from above and came up with the export pieces.

I have a call into the last Elcy I posted looking for some basic dimensions. When I get them I'll post.

I've also found some generic side skirts that are long and you cut to fit and then mold the end caps in.

Finally, I found an F150 kit that can be cut to length and it has separate rear side pieces that could be altered to clean up the transition from the back side of the rear wheel wells to the bumper. Again, when dimensions come in I'll post.
