Notes: I just like to show you what I have been playing with. this started as friend came out to my place .to get some stang parts for his boy car. when Dennis sees the 79 merc zephyr wagon I a have. he asked if I need any parts. I said maybe, why? well Dennis says, he has two Fairmont coupes. so I figure I would go take a look with my trailer in tow. just incase. when I finely made it 10 miles back off bootlegger road. the first one was this brownish merc zephyr. then there was also two Fairmont's blue and red one parked among his stuff.. well the blues was junk and the red one was ok. so I asked what one is his? says the red one and the brown one. I ask what was he wanting for one of them? Dennis say "I will trade you any one for the tail light and shifter that you have" . of course, I ask for the merc! so I loaded merc up. got her home. so figure I will clean it off before I can see what parts are good. 2 hours later I called Dennis back and ask how much for the red one? because I now need parts for the 79 zephyr wagon and now this zephyr coupe. he tell me $20.00 bucks but I cant have the mag wheels on it because there for his boys blue Fairmont. the next day I went and got the Fairmont. just a note be care full of who you have for friends because you might come home with a car.
the rims are off my sister 86 grey stang because her hubby need to use the snow tires to get to Missoula .when we get the 2 feet of snow couple weekend ago. this car is factory 6 cylinder with manual tranny, a/c ,p/s , tilt steering , front and rear sway bars, and the last time this car was on the road was 1999.
so today I pulled the carpet and seats/head liner to see if any mouse's have made a home. didn't find any ,so I'm going to use the Fairmont parts to replace what's bad in this one. I pulled the six out for junk .I have a c-4 and a 87 5.0 roller engine that been waiting for a home. on account the gas is to high to travel to the drag race's .I figure Elliott and I can use this car for the local autocross racing maybe
i also have this one but it is going to be my highway car and it the same plat form as the fairmont/zephyr;
1982 Mercury Coupe
Owner: 1rancheronut (All of this user's registries on SuperMotors)
From: GF, MT, U.S.A. (Other registries in MT)
Year, Make, & Model: 1982 Mercury Coupe
Nickname: casper
Mileage: 91
Engine: 255V-8 WITH AOD tranny and some2.26 rear gears
Drivetrain: still haven't deside if i'm going to put the3.54 8.8 traction locker and a 1988 roller engine yet.
Notes: it looks like a 1982 cougar XR-7 needed a new home . I didn't plan it that way, it just follow the road to my house .
I went to look at this car for PARTS. I needed the windshield because my 1982 merc zephyr (one cracked after install one). when I open the hood and found it was a factory V-8 car. I figure well the engine could be for the 1980 zephyr wagon too.
the owner , where this car was resting at. told me, when he got it from the person he bought from. on that drive home . the rear main engine seal started leaking on the exhaust. SO he wanted to fix the rear main seal leak .so he could drive. he unhook the exhaust Y-pipe and the power steering rack from K member, drop the starter but he fingered he would do the rest later. that was in 1999? it sat in the same spot for 9 yrs?
I didn't know it was still on the car ramps until I went to look under it. the ramps only where sticking out of the mud about 6 inches . so I figure if it was sitting that way, disable that long, then it best to not use the tow-Dally as planed but to put on a car trailer .well mine is half loaded with scrape metal and it wasn't ready to be unloaded. so guess i would have to call a friend. thanks to BOB tweety, I was able to get it home.
before bob got there. we had to move 2 parked cars blocking it way and lot of junk around the cougar to get a trailer close to it. after getting it home . I took a good look at it and from the spots of black spec of stuff all over the car and dirt from sitting. it look ok. so I spent 3 hours washing all the junk off from the out side/under side the car. I haven't clean the inside yet but it look good now. as the photos show. no, I haven't put any wax on it yet! not sure I want to part it out know.
I think it wouldn't take much to get it drivable. heck even all the tires are holding air and not dry rotted. Casper still has the factory install 1982 serpentine belts on her. not to sure about how much HP the factory 4.2L/255 V-8 2bl carb had back then or what kind of gas mileage they got but it has overdrive tranny and soon maybe 3.55 rear end. boy, the mind starts to wonder already. I'm starting to think it would be a good high way traveling car, now that I no longer have the 95 caprice with the LT-1 corvette 350.
funny thing , I only paid $50.00 bucks so far for Casper but when I was checking the NADA webpage and they say low retail is $2130, average retail is $4800.00, high retail is $6450. man, no wonder the USED car lots all wise like that book.
ok hope you enjoy the some story on my toys
