| It seems like I'm the only car guy, let alone Ford guy who doesn't give a rip about the '32 Ford. Yeah, there are some cool ones out there, but 90 percent of them are Chevy powered, and the vast majority are high dollar custom builds done by professional shops. That's not hot rodding to me. Like whatever show that is that Chip Foose has done all these roadsters for... I couldn't possibly care less, and really can't tell one car from the next. Oooo, they put a boat windshield on this one! Who cares?! I just don't get it. For the most part, my era is '64 and up.
Also, cowl hoods. I don't understand the fascination with these. I kind of get it if your intake/blower is really tall and you want them covered, but why do so many people put them on cars that don't need it? ESPECIALLY late model pickups! That's ALWAYS lame. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd rather have a stock look. Maybe add a little scoop, shaker or otherwise, but that's it. Even with the tall intake/blower thing, I guess I'm just not a fan of the over-the-top race car look.

| i agree, i think i pissed the promoters of our local car off beyond reproach this summer, i asked him if any of the high dollar trailer queens that "won" actually "run" and why is it that the out of town people seem to win. i hate fiberglass replica's, why not make a steel replica, why not use a flat head head, or 312, what the fascination with putting a chevrolet engine in a ford. i cant tell you how long it's been since I've seen a set of "bobbed" fenders on one, nowadays, they dont event have rear fenders. there was a 72 or 73 Dodge 340 magnun charger that didnt even get a look, how many of those were made, paperwork and all. i hate clones, Mustangs & camaro's,same wheels, same stereos, same colors, i wonder if they share the same girls???? i like Rat -Rods, there are some pretty imaginative people who havent joined the "clone Club" yet. any ring peice can "buy" a hot rod if they have the money, but they can never say "I Built that car" sorry fella, just kinda agree with you...... however there are some really nice rides out there that do deserve a second look. | |

| Yeah, I know what you mean there too. My dad knows a guy who has a yellow '06 Mustang that he had black Shelby stripes put on, and then Coddington wheels, and he has all these trophies! There's no justice.
I'm not convinced about the rat rod thing. Some are clever and stealthy, but for most it's just an excuse not to finish their cars.

| When I say Rat-Rod, i mean a car from the 20’s to the 50’s. check “rat rod wiki” no a rusted-out 88 impala with torch cut springs and a loud stereo.
I like them because these guys cut/chop/channel etc a car that is basically un-rebuildable/refugee from the scrappy, put it on a newer frame, throw an engine that is obviously wrong for that period and the list goes on. To me it’s all about innovation and functionality.
Some are full of sublime alterations, some obvious, but each one is individual. I have even seen glass door knobs for turn signals. I have a couple of favorites I may post or e-mail you later if i can find the chip they are on.
When i was a kid, there were many t-buckets, gassers, and hot-rods cruising the streets before the muscle cars came on the scene. Don’t get me wrong, i like the muscle cars, they were the sign of Detroit’s dominance in automotive engineering and styling. I suppose the muscle cars killed off the hot rods for a while.
Now there are tuners and tuning out there that can blow the doors off a muscle car in seconds. I rode in a Chevy 6.0litre truck the other day, 19 psi boost, running on E85 we were going 45mph, and it lit the tires up to 110-120 in a blink, luckily it shuts down as quickly as it sets off, wicked ride!!
Then came the Barn-finds, which awoke a lot of people’s imaginations and nostalgic feelings for people like me.
I suppose i just like all kinds of cars so long as they don’t look the same. I don’t like knocking peoples abilities or financial limitations, some steel wheels look better on some cars than chrome.
I suppose I am lucky to have seen so many different cars that give pleasure in one way or another. I cant say too much about any particular class of car, I drive a Fairmont, most people haven’t even heard of them!!!! It’s not a Fairlane, Cordoba or T-bird, it’s just a lowly Fairmont that became the platform for the Fox body, which offers so many parts to keep me on the road. Kinda like a FOX wearing a Shetland Wool sweater.
will a rat rod ever be finished, i supose when it enters the crusher.
Have fun…..

| I agree wityh your posts 99.9% .Chip Foose does build a lot of the same style cars. But his cutomer design cars are probably some of the most thought out cars ever done. And his standards of fit and quality....Jusy my thought. Im building my 79 Futura as stock looking and as fast as possible | |

| Looking at it from a counseling point of view, perhaps deep in the back of your mind, you really want a cowl induction hood based on a 32 ford to conceal your supercharged Chevy engine, and just to be different, you’ll try a fire truck windshield. Then you can drive around on the back of a trailer from show to show, collecting shite loads of trophies while playing loud rap music. Who knows, you may even start a movement!!!
Everyone should do their own thing, however since i put the hand built cowl induction hood on my Fairmont I can’t see over it or around it, so bigger aint always better!!!!
Cowl induction looked cool on the Camaros and chevelles of the 70’s.

| I think you've got it, haha. My brother actually has a tubbed and gutted '79 Capri with a big block chevy and a huge cowl hood on it. He offered it to me once. I wanted to take it just to set it right. Put Ford power in it, an interior, regular hood... the works. Haha. It's a nice car, but it needs saving, haha. | |

| No kidding. Aren't many worse things you can do to a car. He was working at this auto parts store and fell in with the wrong crowd. | |

| I'm kinda with you on the '32 worship. I'm not really into the stripped down hot rods, but I love a stock Deluxe V8 roadster. -MJS | |

| I would like to have actual cowl induction on my car. That is to say, plumb the air cleaner into the cowl, like the original 60s cowl induction. The cowl is an extremely high pressure area, and would be true ram air.

| didn't the original air filter on the Fairmont have a hose that was located at the front lower r/s that ran cold air up to the air filter box?
I saw a Fairmont in Mustangs & Fast Fords that had a nice looking cowl induction hood made by HO Fibertrends, I contacted them, and the reply was that they only made one for this guys car, and they had no intentions to reproduce the hoods at this time. it was a nice looking hood, not stupid high. I may still have the e-mail address and contacts if you are interested, you may want to try them as well. perhaps a bit more interest may be helpful.
