I like the Haynes better as well. But the Chilton's has more stuff about the smog equipment. (a must have in California) Now you can get those smog diagrams off the AutoZone site. Together with the Clymers manual, they are good for quick reference of torque specs, fill caps and some of the simpler repairs. Before the internet, I had all 3 of those, and used the big Mitchell reference manuals at the library for the complicated stuff. You had to photo copy the pages you wanted and it would add up when pages were 20 cents each.
Now, thanks to eBay, you can get a whole set of Ford shop manuals that have so much more information than the others. The Ford shop manuals are where the others get there line drawings and instructions from. A whole set is fairly inexpensive if you wait for the right deal (about $5 for each volume including shipping). I have the sets for 1979 and 1980.
Don't forget about the electrical manuals, they help to troubleshoot problems. These are really cheap and can usually be bought for under $8 shipped. I have all from 1978 thru 1983. The different years really help to when you add wiring with options from cars of a different year, or are wiring in your own accessories.
