PostSubject: how to identify transmission?   Wed Apr 14, 2010 7:54 pm

I keep finding conflicting information between what i read. How can i tell if i have a C4 or C5 transmission?

I believe the best way to tell is by the shape of the trans pan, they all have a different shape. Sorry that I can't tell you which has what shape, I don't have that info handy at the moment. I also think it may be cast into the tailshaft, but I'm not 100% on that.

If you have an inline six in a late fox body then the C5 will have a low-mount starter.
I think they're physically identical on the outside.

well, i got a low mount starter, the pan has 11 bolts, looked square, but might be slightly rectangular. it was flat, no hump, which seems to be the big reason im now thinking it is a c4.
