next, why would this wire be unplugged and then bypassed to itself. it goes into where the refrigerant is stored i guess.

next, what does this little canister on the exhuast do?

next, what was this for? they took it off the new car, but it was on it when i bought it, and its also on the 4 door. the second picture is part of what the tubes connect to, which led down near the bottom of my dist, but again werent hooked up when i got the car back. the third pic is it still in the 4 door.

The carb is a later emissions era version of the Holley 1946, maybe called a 6146 or something like that.

Looks like some ported vacuum switches, some check valves, and that thing on the exhaust manifold is some sort of pre-catalytic converter processor thingy.

The other is unplugged, I would guess, because the AC is crapped out and bypassed.

Be glad you don't live in California. Or do you have to keep that stuff on the car?
That poor engine... Sad

The bypassed thingy looks like it should be plugged into the A/C pressure switch. I think that's the switch that causes the compressor to cycle when it gets low on refrigerant. Maybe the switch is faulty, or they didn't want to recharge the system, or they converted to R134 and it caused some sort of high pressure problem. If it were me, I'd plug it in, and see what it does, but I'm kinda screwy like that.

The coffee can on the manifold is the first in a two catalytic converter system. Looks like a great place to mount a turbo to me.

It looks like the block with the crazy ports on it is for temperature operated vacuum switches. One would do something after the engine warmed up, and the other would do something if the engine overheats. I think my car originally had some sort of system that would drop the vacuum advance signal to the distributor if it got too hot.

Hope this helps.

Later,
Mike.

the piece that is in your heater hoses are just simply an easy vacuum source for Ford.the engine may not have produced enough vacuum from factory to run all the vacuum operated stuff in the car,so they used the vacuum from the flow of water for the extra vacuum needed.

Not exactly. That manifold in the water system holds ported vacuum switches, PVS.
They control the directional flow of the vacuum according to the water temp.

As long as you have no vacuum leaks and the engine runs OK then I guess not. Wink
