shifter help

i have a 1980 mercury wagon trying to change for column shifter to floor shift on a 302 c4 but the shifter pionts up and shifts for 3oclock to 12 oclock what can i do please help i have one trying to use console shifter and the other is a drag car so a don't care but a can't shift it plaese help bobby

The column shift C4s had a different lever than the floor shift C4s. If you want to do the swap with factory parts, find a junkyard Fairmont or Fox Mustang with a C4 and a floor shift, and get the lever from the trans. This will require removing the pan and valve body to get to the nut that holds the lever on from the inside, install it and the shift linkage in your C4, and off you go.

If you don't want to do that, and have access to a MIG welder, you can make a new tab to extend the column shift lever to the floor shift position, weld to the lever, and hook up the floor shift linkage.

i ordered a b&m shifter cable when i added the floor shift to the c4, i l aso had a collumn shift to start with. you will lose the park/neural & reverse switch, but a b&m hammer shifter will sort that out.

so when u order the shifter all u have to do was unbolt the neutal swicth and bolt the new lever 0n it and ready to go

Yes...B&M shifters also come a with neutral safety switch that mounts to the shifter assembly.

if you dont need reverse lights right now, you can short the starter pins at the n/s/switch and just bolt the cable up to a mustang shifter till you can find a hammer on E-bay. you just gotta make sure its in park or neutral when you start it. the B&M cable is a direct fit to the mustang shifter. i cant remember if the pin on the mustang shifter has to be removed and a the one supplied with the cable is substitued or not, but you can figure it out once its in your hands.
