| I think Paul wrote this up. I can't remember. I decided not to do this because there are no markings on the gauges. So what are the gauges telling you? Download and save if it looks like someting you wanna do. Remember, you will lose the PRNDL in the center if column shift. This should be complete for all model years and includes pinouts. http://jpkvideoonline.com/instrument_cluster.htm

| I did this swap a while back. I hooked up everything but the ammeter. It's better than the idiot lights, and it looks cool with the tach. | |

| If the cluster came from a six cyl Mustang, does the tach need to be recalibrated for a V8?

| Since the turbo cars use the same type of cluster as the mustangs....Is there any way to make the tach work on a v-8 car. There is no switch in mine for the different engine types. I was hoping to use the factory tack and put a shift light behind the old boost light in the dash. | |

| Did Fairmonts of Zephyrs come with a tach? My 78 was originally a V8 auto car but the previous owner put in a T5. I am glad he did but I really want the tach. I am torn as to whether I put in the Mustang cluster or just buy an aftermarket tach. If I could find an instrument cluster from a Fairmont or Zephyr that has a tach that would be even better. | |

| Yes, full instrumentation was an option, and gave you the Mustang cluster. But when you ordered that, bucket seats and a floor shifter for the automatic was mandatory, as the full instrumentation cluster did not have the PRND21 indicator. I got my cluster out of an '83 Zephyr Z7.
I have a feeling that the factory tachs for the 4 and 6 engines will have to be recalibrated for V8s at a tach restoration shop. Might be a little pricey.

| My car is a foctory turbo 4 car. The tach is an 8,000 rpm tach vs. a mustang 6000. I've owned mustangs in the past, and they all have a switch in the face of the tach to change from 4-6-8cyl. My turbo car does not have this. At first I thought it was broken, then looking at it closer, I realized it wasn't, it came that way from the factory. Would it be possible to swap in a mustang circut panel into it since the only differance between the cluster is the tach? No tach switch | |

| I put a Mustang gauge set in my Fairmont wagon. The 4/6/8 cylinder switch on the rear of the early 80's 6000 RPM yellowish-needle tach worked in all three cylinder modes. I later switched to the 1985, 1986 red-needle gauges and discovered that the 6000 RPM tach used on the 4 and 6 cylinder cars did not respond when switched to 8-cylinder mode (even though it was still embossed on the back of the tach body). I eventually found a 1985-86 red-needle 7000 RPM V8 tach that worked exclusively in 8 cylinder mode. | |

| Great info, I looked right at that switch and never saw it. I have two 6 grand tachs, hopefully one of them will work in 8cyl mode with the EFI 5.0.
